Key trends in web development

Now is the perfect time to remember the outgoing year and talk about web development trends that will be in focus in the future. We have identified 5 trends that are worth paying attention to in order to develop relevant, memorable and user-friendly web applications.

Artificial intelligence and chatbots

By now it is becoming clear that the use of artificial intelligence is not a hype or a fashion statement, but a full—fledged direction that helps to solve more and more complex tasks in different areas of business from year to year. PwC found that managers single out virtual assistants (31%), analytics (29%) and chatbots (28%) among the most effective AI solutions. Gartner predicts that by 2022, 70% of customer interactions will occur using machine learning technologies and chatbots.

that in the next three years, the chatbot market will grow by 30% annually. Among the drivers of market growth, experts highlight the development of artificial intelligence (thanks to this, chatbots will talk naturally and provide a high level of engagement), the growth of the use of messengers, reducing the cost of developing and implementing chatbots, as well as the relevance of contactless solutions.

Chatbots with artificial intelligence are most in demand in the banking sector, retail, healthcare and other industries where the issue of personalization of customer experience has come to the fore. We at Azoft are also developing smart chatbots. We are currently working on an AI chatbot constructor. It includes an admin panel with which you can lay your logic and scripts without programming skills. In the future, we plan to develop it into a full-fledged virtual doctor who will be able to support patients 24/7 and refer them to the necessary specialist in case of emergencies.

Most of the bots currently used around the world lack payment functionality. So far, you can make a payment without the help of external systems only in Facebook Messenger (in beta in the USA) and Telegram. It is expected that the situation will change in the near future, so that purchases using chatbots will become easier and more convenient.

Progressive Web Applications

We started talking about progressive web applications (PWA) a few years ago, and every year the technology attracts the attention of more and more investors and developers. Twitter, Uber, Instagram, Pinterest, Starbucks, Aviasales and other brands use PWA-based apps as their main product or in addition to a mobile app.

PWA are good because they allow:

  • browse websites in a mobile browser with the same speed and convenience as on a computer, including offline
  • to create a unified experience of using the product on any device
  • reduce the development process compared to native applications
  • In addition, PWA, being web pages, are recognized by search engines.

However, along with this, PWA also have disadvantages:

in the absence of a native application, traffic from the App Store and Google Play is missed

, limited functionality compared to native applications

quickly drain the device’s battery

Total: PWA can be a good alternative to a native application or its complement. The choice depends on the specifics of the business and its tasks.

So for the development of our telemedicine application Primu.online, we chose PWA technology. This boxed solution helps to keep an online record and database of patients, save medical records in the medical record and conduct video consultations.

Voice search and navigation

Voice search is rapidly gaining popularity. Among the drivers of growth is the development of technology in smartphones: almost all modern models are equipped with a voice search option. The popularity of voice assistants (Alexa, Alice, Siri, etc.) and smart speakers such as Yandex.Station and Google Home Assistant also makes a big contribution.

More and more people are communicating with devices by voice, and with the help of developing machine learning technologies, artificial intelligence recognizes increasingly complex queries.

According to the Global Digital Overview study, the share of voice search usage worldwide increased by more than 9% in 2019, with 43% of users aged 16 to 64 searching for something on the Internet using voice at least once a month.  25% of users use voice search monthly.

The growing popularity of voice search and navigation on a web page is not surprising, because it solves the problem quickly and is easy to use.

At the same time, there is a growing demand for optimizing web solutions for voice search in terms of SEO and other technical strategies. It is assumed that the first followers will gain an additional advantage over competitors.

From the point of view of web development, optimizing voice search requires working with the Web speech API, which is divided into two components: speech recognition and speech synthesis. Speech recognition allows you to understand voice queries, and speech synthesis allows scripts to read text content.

MedTech

The coronavirus has given a powerful impetus to the development of digital medicine. Remote consultations and medical tech solutions are needed both by doctors who find themselves on the front line, and by patients who are deprived of the possibility of face-to-face communication with a doctor in quarantine conditions.

According to analysts’ reports, the global market for the development of medical mobile applications is estimated at $37 billion in 2020. It is expected that by 2025 this figure will grow 9 times and reach 332.7 billion. If you are working on a medtech product or planning to develop it, we advise you to pay attention to the following trends.

AI diagnostic systems

Artificial intelligence is becoming a more effective assistant in the diagnosis of serious diseases. For example, Huawei has developed its own AI solution for the diagnosis of coronavirus: CT scans are analyzed based on an ever-growing database. Doctors get the result within two minutes with 98% confidence. This approach frees up human resources and allows you to start treatment before receiving a classic laboratory test.

Azoft also has experience in developing medical solutions based on artificial intelligence. We have developed an AI algorithm that determines the presence of lung cancer in patients based on computed tomography.

Telemedicine

The popularity of tele-health protection has been growing in previous years, but in 2020 the pandemic has become a significant incentive for the development of the industry. Virtual care platforms using video conferencing and digital monitoring help patients around the world get instant access to medical care.

The growth of telemedicine will continue after the end of the pandemic. 71% of patients in the United States considered using telemedicine at the beginning of the pandemic, and 50% have already used virtual appointments. Fortune Business Insights forecasts that the global telemedicine market will reach $185.66 billion by 2026 with an average annual growth rate of 23.5%.
